Lexus introduced a new design language, known as "L-finesse" with the LF series of concept and then by the year 2006 the Lexus GS. L-finesse is represented by three Japanese kanji characters are translated as "interesting Elegance, sharp Simplicity, and Seamless Anticipation".
Design characteristics, including the Fastback profile, lattice lower sets, and the use of both the convex surface and concave, comes from the Japanese cultural motifs (eg sentence in the form kirikaeshi arrowheads).
While the Lexus models previously criticized for reserved and derivative styling, and are often mistaken to downplay the domestic car market, automotive analysis of L-finesse design is described as adding a distinctive nature and embrace of Japanese design identity.
Opinions vary for L-finesse's debut in the year 2006 GS; Sports Car International praised the analysis in the vehicle appearance; Automobile Magazine dare criticize the progress of the styling, and the next than rival models for design similarity. L-finesse exhibition presented at the Milan's Salone del Mobile from 2005 until 2009.
